Claire's Closet: boots were made for walkin'
By Claire Dickinson, Editor
The weather is finally starting to cool down and the leaves are beginning to change to hues of red and yellow. Everyone knows what that means; it is officially fall. It is time to trade the shorts and flip flops for cozy leggings, and you guessed it, boots. The fall staple that has swept the nation is back in season.
Boots come in all kinds of shapes and styles suitable for ladies to accessorize their fall wardrobes. The most common trend is the riding boot. Riding boots can go with almost any fall outfit. The most important thing to remember when purchasing these is proportion. The riding boot style is meant to elongate the leg, giving the illusion of a skinnier calf. Girls who are medium height or shorter should make sure the boot does not go much higher than the knee. When the boots are too long, the legs may appear cut off and shorter than they really are.
Additionally, riding boots are a good decision for girls with versatile taste. They can be worn with patterned, colored, or black leggings, jeans, a skirt or a dress. If you like bold decisions in color and have a favorite pair of brown leather riding boots, go for red or maroon skinny jeans. Brown leather boots can make an outfit with earthy tones such as browns, greens, and cream. Blues of all sorts go with brown leather as well. If you like a pop of color, choose an orange sweater or infinity scarf. Flannels, cozy sweaters, and vests are a great match with boots and serve their purpose to keep warm even on the chilliest autumn day.
Another popular way to wear this brown leather style is with knee-high socks underneath. This obviously keeps your legs extra warm while giving a cozy feel to the laid back look. The socks can serve a purpose on those cold mornings standing outside waiting for the bus, but some just like socks for the look. A nifty DIY to get the look of knee-highs without the warmth is to cut off the sleeves of an old sweater and wear them around the calves. Others can only see the tops of the “sock” anyway, so no one has to know.
As the temperature drops lower and lower, it is not a question of whether to wear riding boots; it is how to style them. Enjoy corn mazes and fall festivals this year in the comfort of this trendy and practical style.

jesus Christ Superstar
By Marley Billman, Reporter
Carlisle Theater is running the popular Broadway musical, Jesus Christ Superstar. This rock opera retells the story of the last seven days of Jesus’s life in Nazareth. Featuring notable songs such as “Superstar” and “I Don’t Know How to Love Him,” CTC’s newest show is capturing the hearts of its audience.
Several Boiling Springs students and teachers are members of the cast. Senior Kelley Hertzler, juniors Leah Eshelman and Adeline Riley, and our very own Mr. Mancuso are all featured cast members. Michael Miller, star of the show, and Dustin LeBlanc, director, are also alumni of BSHS.
Carlisle Theater opened in 1939 and has been entertaining audiences ever since. CTC, the acting company, is excited to be performing such a classic. With a new, younger group of performers, the show is and takes a new perspective on this timeless musical. Cast member Leah Eshelman raved about it. “I like how fast paced the theater is. It’s definitely more professional than a high school or middle school show. Everyone should see it,” she says.
Jesus Christ Superstar opened October 10 and closed October 19. This year’s fall musical recieved raving reviews. “It was amazing,” says avid fan Emma Engle, “It was such a fantastic show. The cast was so great!” To see more shows and movies sponsored by Carlisle Theater, visit the website at www.carlisletheatre.org. There are many upcoming shows to see and audition for starting in the spring of 2015. To see more upcoming musicals from CTC, visit their new website at www.carlisletheatercompany.com.

Fall Fun
By Nikki Bonner, Editor
Why not try something new this fall? Many activities are available ranging from Halloween-themed haunted attractions to fall festivals. Pennsylvania is a great location for these events due to rural surroundings which allow for harvest festivals as well as big attractions.
Two common frightening attractions around the area are Jason’s Woods in Lancaster and Field of Screams in Mountville. Jason’s Woods features a total of six haunted attractions due to the recent addition of the Zombie Apocalypse and Fields of Fright. The ticket prices range from $25 for a three pack combo deal which includes the Horrifying Hayride, Chamber of Horrors, and the Zombie Apocalypse. Also available is the Grand Slam package which includes the three pack combo as well as the Fields of Fright, Lost in Jason’s Woods, and the Carnival of Fear. Both packages include admission to the Theatre Pre-Show which is described as having many frightening scary effects. If long lines are an issue, another option available is to buy the VIP pass for an extra $10 which will result in a much shorter wait.
Field of Screams has a total of four attractions called the Haunted Hayride, Den of darkness, Frightmare Asylum, and Nocturnal Wasteland. To experience all four it will cost $33 while three attractions will cost $30 and 2 will cost $27. For a shorter adventure, passes can also be purchased for individual sale. To beat long lines a VIP pass is offered for an extra $15. Along with Field of Screams, a 5k Zombie Fun Run will be held at the same location. This event allows runners to be chased by “zombies” that have been professionally perfected and will later arrive at the Living Dead After Party. The run will be held on November 15 with a day run at 10 a.m. and a night run at 7:30 p.m. To run in this event it will cost an individual $70 if registered by November 9 or $80 on the day of the event. If one does not enjoy running, they can always participate as zombies for $40 or volunteer and receive a free t-shirt, snacks, and are also invited to attend the after party.
A more family-friendly activity would be the Silver Spring Township Fall Festival which will be held on October 25 from 11 a.m. to 5 p.m. The festival will be held in Carlisle at Stony Ridge Park instead of Willow Mill Park where it has been held in previous years. Activities include a pet costume contest, art, entertainment, food, games, and much more.
Another family-friendly option is to visit Paulus Orchards in Dillsburg. At the orchards there is pumpkin picking and apple picking on the weekends. The hours available are Saturday 9 to 5 and Sunday 11 to 5 throughout all of October. The pumpkin prices range from $2 from $12 depending on the desired size while apples are based on a per bag price. A large bag is $15.50 while a medium bag will cost $10.25. After picking, stop by the wagon rides and corn maze for some extra fun. The orchards also offer blueberry and blackberry picking during the applicable seasons.
