Minithon Wrap Up
By Taylor Pentz, Reporter Boiling Springs High School held their second annual Mini-Thon on Friday, March 27, from 7 p.m. to 7 a.m. This year, the students raised $21,720.61 almost doubling last year’s total of $12,734.16. By: Catherine Lynch, Webpage Editor “For God’s sake, open the door!” screamed Captain Patrick Sondenheimer as he banged on the cockpit door of the Germanwings plane pleading with copilot, Andreas Lubitz to let him in. Thirteen minutes later, the plane crashed into the French Alps killing the two men along with the 150 people on board. Read more>> Solar Powered Plane
By: Melanie Barber, Reporter New technology is taking the world by storm, and one of its successes is called the Solar Impulse 2. Run by solar-power, this plane is taking a five month journey around the world. The 5,000 pound plane, made of carbon fiber, has solar panels covering the aircraft’s wings that will charge four batteries. Read more>> CERN Restart
By: Nathan Pittenger, Reporter The European Organization for Nuclear Research, CERN, will be restarting after undergoing major improvements over the past two years. Through its intensive study of particles, many improvements to society occur, such as computer and technology advances in the physics field. Scholastic Writing Winners Please be sure to congratulate those students who won Scholastic Writing awards at the regional level. Gold and silver key winners will be invited to the Regional Awards ceremony. Gold key winners will also have their entry advance to the national level. PJ Greenbaum, Shannon Susi, and Ellie Tiley all received a gold key for their entries in the competition. Claire Chicchi, Cameron Danesh, and Jacob Kole were students who received a silver key for their entries. Fourteen other students, including Allison Barnes, Caleb Deutsch, Callie Garcia, Kaiden Karper, Catherine Lynch, Bryce Maskrey, Owen Papa, Nate Pittenger, Noah Reighard, Jacob Rob, Mary Shriner, Emma Spisak, Erin Thompson, and Nathan Vorodi, all received an honorable mention award. Science Honors Society Boiling Springs High School will be introducing a new club starting next school year. The Science Honors Society will be joining the diverse group of honors societies currently offered. Junior, Nathan Pittenger has gained approval for the club from Principal Mr. Hain. If you feel that you excel in science and enjoy learning, keep your eyes peeled for future information about the club. Spring Meadows Changes A newly completed master plan for Spring Meadows Park reveals an estimated $4.42 million in proposed improvements for the underdeveloped fifty acres on the east side of the park. The plan suggests that the work could be split into ten different sections in order to complete it at different times. An estimated $78,400 would be used to put a veteran’s memorial grove at the current entrance. In addition, $1.2 million would be used for a second access driveway, additional parking, picnic units, a formal lawn, and an amphitheater with an initial capacity of 500 to 600 seats. Color Yearbook This year the yearbook staff is breaking boundaries. The yearbook will now be in full color and even bigger than books in previous years. If you have not already, talk to Mr. Shields about ordering your 2014-15 yearbook. The yearbook price is $48.00. |
