Seventy million hearing-impaired people use sign language as their first language. Sign language is a language that uses manual communication and body language in order to convey a message, as opposed to acoustically conveyed sounds. By using hand movement, hand shapes, and facial expressions, sign language allows people living with a disability, that prohibits them from communicating verbally, to communicate. Seven year-old, Sailor Gutzler, trekked nearly a mile across creeks and ditches, through blackberry briars and fallen trees, in summer clothes on a cold night in Kentucky. The little girl was able to find herself a safe place to stay after leaving the twisted wreckage of a plane crash that killed her entire family. The next day, 71 year-old, Larry Wilkins, found her at his doorstep disoriented, shivering, and crying with a broken wrist, bloody nose, bloody arms, bloody legs, one sock, and no shoes.
